Copenhagen Skyline (matte painting) Photoshop August 2007
This was a commissioned studio backdrop for a tv-show on standup comedy. It was cut up into ten slices, and arranged into a semicircle around a podium where the host and his guests were sat during shooting. They were printed on translucent material, mounted on aluminium frames and backlit.
The piece was originally painted at a resolution of 300 dpi at a size of 2,5 meters by 5 meters. Upon completion of the compositing and matte painting process, the image was divided into ten pieces and scaled to the correct resolution, before layer effects to stylize the images were applied. The size of each slice was 1,5 meters by 3 meters tall.
process:
A series of panoramic photos were shot by Sune Saabye - stitching was handled externally, and compositing in Photoshop + digital matte painting were handled by me.
Painted elements include the sky and various elements around the image, such as lighting in the windows and on the walls here and there. Upon completion of the paint process, we applied a variety of effects to get it to look slightly cartoony. I'll post some close-ups to show this in more detail.
